Gene Putney's Biography

Growing up in a small town in Michigan, I always had a passion for nature. I will never forget the beauty of my favorite season - changing of the fall colors. There was a marsh near my home, where I could observe an abundance of wildlife that captivated me. I was also intrigued with cameras and photography, dreaming of someday becoming a professional nature photographer. In 1995, I decided to turn my interests into reality by starting my professional nature photography career.

I currently reside in one of the most ideal places for my profession, the State of Colorado, near Rocky Mountain National Park, one of our most treasured areas in the United States. Throughout my career it has become one of my favorite places to photograph both beautiful landscapes and a diversity of wildlife.

Throughout the state of Colorado, unlimited wildlife and natural landscape photo opportunities await, keeping me busy year round. I also travel to a variety of locations outside of Colorado to capture images of wildlife not indigenous to Colorado, as well as landscapes.

I continue to study and learn about wildlife and landscapes that I photograph, to better understand my subjects. This combined with my years of experience, has allowed me to capture many rewarding images. Every professional nature photographer has their own visionary perspective of what they see and how they want to capture a specific image, making them all unique.

Through my images I would like to share with you special moments that nature has allowed me the privilege to observe and photograph. As long as we respect nature, it exists for us to enjoy, admire and learn from. I proudly contribute to a variety of organizations that help preserve the wildlife and natural landscapes that are my passion to photograph.

My images have been published in a variety of national nature publications including Audubon and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) Calendars, and Birders World, Montana, Outdoor Photographer and RMEF Magazines, and Sierra Club Notecards. I would like to thank everyone who has invested in my fine art prints for your art collections. I am also grateful to those who have published my images to help visually portray the vital importance of protecting our beautiful, natural world.
